Based on the specific options provided to you from the county and MCHS, English I teachers will be posting grades into quarter 3 of PowerSchools to serve as the English I coursework grade as follows:
English I teachers will average together the remote learning assignments submitted by students for each grading category, so long as that averaged grade does not LOWER the student's average that he/she had earned as of 3/13/2020. If a student has submitted only parts of the assigned categories or his/her average for that category would lower the course grade, we will omit the student from that work. Therefore, a student's course average can only be benefitted by work submitted during the remote learning time period.
Remote learning period 1 will show grades for averaged work categories from 4/13/2020 - 5/13/2020. Remote learning period 2 will show grades for averaged work categories from 5/14/2020 - 6/2/2020.
Remote learning categories will cover:
Skills assessments (20% of course grade) - 1 Remote Learning grade of the 4 units (3 units for remote learning period 2) of vocab./Latin skills, averaged Classwork (30% of course grade) - 1 Remote Learning grade of the 5 Commonlit assignments, averaged Homework (10% of course grade) - 1 Remote Learning grade of the writing practices and poetry/chapter work for literature, averaged Major Assessments (40% of course grade) - 2 Remote Learning grades of the research project and the novel reading packet, entered separately
Therefore, both remote learning periods will offer students the opportunity for 5 improvement opportunities across the categories for a total of 10 total grade opportunities. I will begin posting remote learning 1 averages into PowerSchools next week. Thank you for your support and for encouraging your student to continue learning and improving through the coursework during these unprecedented times.
Be well~
